History

Nanaimo United has long been a leader in building strong Canadian soccer. A century old, Nanaimo won its first (and one of the first) BC Challenge Cup as a member of the Pacific Coast League in 1907. Although the name of the club has changed throughout the years, the desire and commitment to play good soccer has not. Throughout the more recent years Nanaimo has won many VISL Division I league championships including a few in the 90’s and once again in the 2002/2003 season. They have also proved successful in the 1995/96 and 1998/99 seasons when they won the Jackson Cup. After a couple-year stint in Division II, United played its first year back in Division I last year earning a reputable 5th place. This year – 2008- all the teams that have previously represented Nanaimo are pulling together to create the new Nanaimo United.
