Saturday night was a huge success despite the game scores, the real winners were the kids….Nanaimo United women hosted a double header at Merl Logan field on Saturday night ….First up were the Div 1 girls vs. Castaways FC, Castaways came out strong in the first 5 minutes and went up 1-0 from a scramble in front of the goal, 10 minutes later Jolene Nagy netted the tieing goal, Castaways went a head just before the half. 10 minutes into the second Castaway scored again for a 3-1 lead, United battled back as Nicole fitterer scored twice to tie the game until minute 80 when castaways regained the lead and finished off united attempts for a come back…
The second part of the double header had United premier Women up against Prospect lake, United came out hard and carried most of the play, unfortunately Prospect lake took a 1-0 lead into the half, second half showed united coming on strong and carried all of the play unfortunately the finish wasn't there this night and Prospect lake got a lucky one late in the game for a 2-0 victory….
The kids were the real winners this night as Nanaimo United featured two U7 girls teams playing a small sided game at halftime…The U7 Red Dragons coached by Jen Nixon battled the U7 green Lizards coached by Geli Qualizza and Candace Labelle…the girls played a great match and enjoyed the atmosphere at Merl Logan…Both teams will receive a training session with United women in hopes that these will be our future players….
